A high grown mild coffee, has a lovely mellow taste with slight acidity, much admired by connoisseurs.
This particular ‘elephant’ bean, selected for its size, is sometimes considered to be smoother and richer in flavour than the standard arabica beans.
The name comes from the town of Maragogipe which is near Bahia, Brazil where these exceptionally large beans were first found, Coffea Indigena.
Maragogype is found in most producing countries, but Guatemalan is considered of superior quality, especially when roasted to a full roast colour .
Maragogype is a mutation of Typica coffee and was discovered in Brazil. The Maragogype is a large plant with big leaves, low production and very large fruits (and seeds / green beans). It has been called the ” Elephant Bean coffee.”
