Kopi Luak (Kopi Luwak) or Civet Cat coffee is often referred to as the worlds best coffee. Our Kopi Luwak is 100% Certified and ethically farmed using only wild civets cats.The coffee for connoisseurs is made from berries passed through the digestive system of an Indonesian civet cat, making it unique and rare!The Civet Cats are wild and free to roam the coffee plantation. This is not only ethical, it ensures quality, as the wild Civet Cat will choose to eat only the ripest of coffee berries!

The taste has been compared to ‘fermented plum and dark chocolate with hazelnuts’ by one roast master and is known to have a distinct lack of bitterness.

Kopi Luwak was a cherished discovery of local plantation workers, who were forbidden by their Dutch planation owners from taking normal coffee berries from the crop to make their brew!

Historic Profile: Luwak is the Indonesian name for the Civet Cat. Civets spend their nights rampaging through the local coffee plantations. They inspect each berry meticulously and they only choose to eat the berries that are perfectly ripened, with just the right amount of water content and acidity in the parchment.

This ability to differentiate perfect from average is partially the reason Kopi Luwak is so prized above coffee that is handpicked by farm workers. The other reason is the unique processing those berries go through – once the Luwak has ingested the ripe berries, a “100% Natural” process begins.

The intestinal enzymes and juices of the Luwak remove any bitterness from the bean leaving an almost perfectly processed natural coffee bean. Every bean of Kopi Luwak collected on our estate is from wild jungle civet cats.

    My daughter bought me 2 taster packs as she knows I’m mad about my coffee. I’ve known about Kopi Luak for a few years now but have always been dissuaded by the price. I’m absolutely hooked now though, its incredibly smooth with no bitter aftertaste. I usually (to my eternal shame) take a sugar in coffee but this is sweet enough. As others have said definate hints of chocolate about this. Bottom line, pricey but what a luxury. Everyone should try some.

    I have purchased this as an Xmas present so I have not used. The parcel was delivered promptly in 4 days and needed to be signed for. It weighed the same as description and smells lovely. As for the taste I’m at a loss as unfortunately it’s not for me. 10/10 for speed of delivery and quality of packing

    When i last bought this coffe as a stocking filler the packaging was really nice.however this time round its arrived in a shabby brown paper bag,very dissapointing and i actually feel embarrassed offering this as a gift.it also cost me five pounds more for the taster this time,i do accept that given as everything has gone up,wish the packaging had stayed the same though.

    I bought this coffee out of curiosity having heard about it on a tv programme. I knew it was expensive but it was worth every penny. It has a pleasant strong creamy earthy flavour. We had it at breakfast and it was a great way to start our day. I’d recommend anyone to try it.

    This coffee is very good, but it is not mind blowing. The coffee is certainly much better than average and I really enjoyed it. However, it does not represent value for money. 4 cups for �12.50 is very expensive and whilst the taste was good, I doubt I’ll be buying again. ** No problems with the supplier though.     once i found about what this been goes through (no pun intended) i thought i have to try this. It is very nice coffee, quite a nutty taste to it, and very strong and pleasing to the palette, its not something i would regularly buy given the cost, however its great for conversation with other coffee lovers and you can tick it off the list of the most expensive thing ive tried list!

    I love Italian blends and really enjoyed this coffee. My boyfriend loves the French blends and was less impressed. I think if you like really strong, bitter coffee or if your palate is diminished (e.g. by smoking/aging) then this is not for you. I loved it!
